The The Directorate-General for Digitalization and Communication of the Ministry of Culture (MiC) is a Directorate-level office, under the Department for General Administration (DIAG), whose main mission is the promotion of digital transformation and technological innovation, with particular focus on the digitalization of cultural heritage and institutional communication.
The Directorate-General is structured into two central non-general management offices:
- Service I – Technological Innovation, Digitalization and Communication
- Service II – Information and Document Flow Security
In Article 12 of the DPCM 15 marzo 2024 n.57 and in the DM 270 del 5 settembre 2024 the tasks and main functions of the Directorate-General are defined, which specifically:
- oversees technological innovation, digitalization, system computerization, and the unified and shared organization of the Ministry’s information system and the necessary tools that ensure administrative transparency and cybersecurity, including aspects related to the implementation of regulations on privacy protection;
- oversees the digitalization of cultural heritage;
- monitors the implementation of the Digital Administration Code and digital transition policies, according to the guidelines of the Agency for Digital Italy (AGID);
- oversees institutional communication and the development of the communication initiatives program pursuant to Article 11 of the Law of 7 June 2000, No. 150, in coordination with the Minister’s direct collaboration offices;
- represents the MiC in European and international bodies and initiatives in the field of digitalization and information and communication technologies within the public administration sector, in coordination with the Directorate-General for European and International Affairs
Within the Directorate-General, the Central Institute for the Digitalization of Cultural Heritage – Digital Library operates as an organizational unit
