The Directorate-General for Digitalization and Communication carries out the following activities, also through its affiliated services:
- Strategic coordination, planning, design, and integrated development of the Ministry’s application and management systems.
- Promotion of technological innovation, digitalization, system computerization, and related tools to support the Ministry’s structure.
- Strategic coordination, planning, design, integrated development, and management of the technological infrastructure, IT networks, data, and web services, as well as implementation of Artificial Intelligence and blockchain technologies, in accordance with national and EU regulatory frameworks.
- Definition of guidelines regarding the unified information system and the implementation of the provisions of the Digital Administration Code under Legislative Decree No. 82 of 7 March 2005, with particular reference to telematic access and reuse of Ministry data (open data), as well as their accessibility, data management on the IPA portal, and management of relations with AgID.
- Coordination, planning, development, management, and acquisition of telecommunication and telephony systems.
- Identification of the need for Information Technology (IT) goods and services and technical support to the Directorate-General for Human Resources and Organization in managing the related procurement procedures.
- Management and organization of the IT technical support service.
