Ecomic is an open, participatory and inclusive space.

The Digital Ecosystem for Culture was created to respond to the challenge of the digital transition of the cultural sector, essential to ensuring the conservation, enhancement, and accessibility of Italy's cultural heritage and overcoming the fragmentation of existing digital systems.

At the core of a national strategy, it integrates public institutions, private entities, universities, cultural and creative enterprises, professionals and citizens within a collaborative model based on co-specialisation and distributed governance.

Enabling, interoperability and enhancement are the objectives of Ecomic, and constitute the essential reference for understanding the potential impact of the Ecosystem throughout the national territory, in terms of access, use and reuse of cultural data for the enhancement of the entire national heritage.

The technological core of Ecomic is based on three main integrated platforms:

  • D.PaC, for the Digitization of Cultural Heritage. It supports the planning, execution, and monitoring of digitization processes;
  • I.PaC, Infrastructure and Services for Cultural Heritage. It provides services for the management, semantic enrichment, and interoperability of digital resources;
  • DPaaS, a laboratory platform for experimenting with innovative solutions based on cultural data.

Through these tools, Ecomic ensures the effective management of the lifecycle of digital assets, from production to final use, guaranteeing open and shared standards that promote interconnection among different cultural entities.

Within the ecosystem, stakeholders find innovative digital services based on the use of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and semantic graphs, to foster new ways of managing, enhancing and accessing digital cultural heritage.
