The Call for Abstracts is now open for the VCH 2027 International Conference – The Vulnerability of Cultural Heritage. Strategies and technologies to address a structural condition of the contemporary era, promoted by the DTC Lazio Centre of Excellence, in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Culture – General Directorate for Digitalisation and Communication.
The conference will be held in Rome from 13 to 15 January 2027, at Sapienza University of Rome, the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), and the Palazzo delle Esposizioni. It will focus on the vulnerability of cultural heritage from a broad, multidisciplinary and international perspective. The event aims to foster dialogue among researchers, institutions, businesses, professionals and organisations working in the fields of culture, innovation and cultural heritage, with particular attention to the strategies and technologies required to address the challenges posed by climate change, natural and human-induced hazards, digital transformation, conservation and enhancement processes, as well as the relationship between cultural heritage, places and communities.
Conference Objectives
- Foster international dialogue and the exchange of best practices.
- Strengthen networks and collaborations among institutions, organisations and researchers.
- Promote wider awareness of currently available technologies.
- Support the development of strategic guidelines and recommendations for the future of cultural heritage protection.
Abstracts must be submitted in English, following the instructions provided on the dedicated conference webpage, by no later than 30 September 2026.
This initiative forms part of theobjectives of the agreement signed on 16 July 2026 between the Ministry of Culture's General Directorate for Digitalisation and Communication and the DTC Lazio Centre of Excellence. Under the agreement, the two bodies have committed to collaborating on joint initiatives in the fields of applied research, technological innovation, training and knowledge dissemination,at both national and international levels, with a focus on the digital transformation of cultural heritage and cultural activities.
